The Joint Police Advisory Council (JPAC) is a coalition that aims to improve communication and dialogue between the Athens community, Ohio University and their corresponding police departments. The coalition consists of police officers, city officials, Ohio University staff and concerned citizens. In a time where police and community relations are often covered and portrayed negatively in a national spotlight, the Athens and Ohio University police departments are seeking to differentiate themselves from these grim outlooks.
The JPAC has hosted a community barbeque in September during previous years, but it is currently looking to try something new. We are currently focusing on two major spring events: an open discussion between fist year transfer students and a larger scale community service event.
These events would help foster an air of camaraderie between the police departments and the communities they serve. The goal is to develop lasting relationships through shared values and meaningful conversations.
Stay tuned for updates on how the JPAC is helping build a stronger, healthier Athens community!
